February Trance Selection

Let's get one thing straight. February was a shitty month. Yes, it was. In papers however, everything seemed perfect. New tunes from Bjorn Akesson, Armin, Jochen Miller, Markus Schulz (under the alias Dakota), Will Holland, Arnej, Greg Downey, Marcel Woods and so on. What could possibly go wrong? Apparently, everything went straight to hell. We can't help but feel way too disappointed from all those great producers. Their latest tunes were lacking imagination, peak levels and feeling. They were as generic as ever. Seriously now, we've heard those formulaic tunes a hundred of times and after sometime, it get's really boring.

All is not lost though, as we got four tunes that are worth mentioning. It's kind of sad that there were only four but what can we say? Just be grateful that there are at least some that are worth your hard-earned cash.

Bobina And Betsie Larkin - You Belong To Me (Original Vocal Mix): Bobina's latest collaboration with Betsie Larkin is cute. We've heard way better tunes from Bobina but still, "You Belong To Me" is good. Its intro is nothing to write home about. A bit generic but has a nice vibe. And just when you think that this will be quite average, Betsie's voice comes in. It elevates the tune to higher ground, especially during the emotional breakdown. Bobina keeps the energetic and emotional vibe after the breakdown with a nice melody and Betsie's vocals. The outro is underwhelming and similar to the generic intro. Still, we can't overlook it as the tune is catchy and generally great, although it's a bit cheesy. Good job Bobina!

San - Far From In Between (Original Mix): "Far From In Between" has that something that most of the latest trance tunes lack. Perhaps it's the mellow vibe or the fact that it's one of the most polished, yet simple tracks we've heard in February. A dark progressive intro is followed by a lovely breakdown. Although the piano melody is amazing, it's quite simple. It sets though the right mood. And then comes the techy part. Instead of trying to overpower the entire tune however (like in most tech trance tunes), this tech melody keeps the mellow feeling. It's a great combination to say the least. Kudos to San.

Hesham Ghoneim - Nightside (Original Mix): And here is the best tune of February. There are no words to describe the awesomeness that is called "Nightside"; a melancholic prog trance tune with a lovely melody. It's pretty obvious from its intro that this is a tune that will blow your mind. It starts ideally with the perfect vibe. And the way the melody comes in is great. The breakdown is a bit simple but it is literally saved by the melody. In case you haven't figured it out already, it's all about that melody that will stuck into your mind. Hesham did an exceptional job and "Nightside" deserves a place among the best trance tunes of 2011.

Turn & Natali Kryzhanovski - Nostalgie (Original Mix): Last but not least, we have Turn & Natali Kryzhanovski's latest tune, "Nostalgie"; an uplifting trance track that is not as generic as most of those out there. It starts great with a nice bassline and an energetic vibe. It is a fact that we're complaining about the mellow breakdowns of the energetic tunes, as most of the time they seem out of place. However, Turn and Natali used a violin synth that sounds incredibly. Moreover, its melody is not generic and balances perfectly between the energetic and the emotional vibe of the whole tune. Small details like the pads in the background are carefully placed that add some extra points. "Nostalgie" shows that mellow melodies can accompany an energetic tune. And that's why the duo deserves a further recognition.

And those were the best trance tunes of February. May the trance be with you and see you around the next month, with March's Trance Selection!
